My name is Nancy Brown.
I believe that people with disabilities should live full, inclusive lives filled with HOPE and possibilities.
My daughter Bridget has been
my greatest teacher because she was the first person with a disability
included in our neighborhood school. I am proud to say I actively facilitated my
daughter’s inclusive education. I can help others do the same thing.
Nancy often presents nationally with her daughter, Bridget, who is a successful 23 year old young woman with Down Syndrome. They specialize in coaching participants in person centered planning, transition, and adaptations and accommodations in inclusive classrooms.
Nancy believes that all students should have access to the general education curriculum. She holds hope for people with disabilities and believes they can have productive lives filled with possibilities.
Nancy has had over 30 years
of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
She is an inclusion
consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education (Project CHOICES)
and a private consultant with PATHFINDERS consulting services. She is a
strong inclusion advocate and has worked with many Illinois school
districts to help facilitate district wide systems change. She
provides technical assistance to districts, schools, teachers, and
families. Nancy and the LRE Project CHOICES Team work with
administrators, special education directors, and school principals to
design a strategic plan to increase the amount of children with IEPs in
general education settings. The plans usually include evaluating the
environmental education data, ISAT scores, reading gap numbers, special
education resources, and results in designing systems that support an
inclusive educational model where all students can learn successfully.
She has worked for Ray Graham
Association, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Family Support
Network, Pathfinders Consulting, , North West Youth
Outreach, and Gotlieb Hospital. Nancy is a Green Circle Facilitator,
a Character Counts trainer, and a facilitator of social/emotional
supports for inclusive classrooms and communities. Nancy is a graduate of George Williams College.
Currently she also volunteers as the Children's Program Coordinator at Norman B Barr Camp in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. She supervises counselors and develops a camp program for under-served children and people with disabilities. Nancy loves to camp, bike, hike, cross country ski, travel, and create adventures with her family and friends.
